How do I check the person and the pharmacy?
Get the full name of the doctor and of any pharmacy involved. Take those names to the official records.
The US drug review agency is the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Compare permission to practise with a badge
The licensing record
Public records held by a state medical board cover a doctor’s licence and published actions against it.
Pharmacy licences are recorded by a separate body, the state board of pharmacy.
A PCAB quality badge
PCAB accreditation means an outside group checked how a pharmacy makes medicines against national quality rules.
It checks the work process, not each batch or how well a treatment works.
This check does not replace a pharmacy licence.
For the doctor: start with your location
US health department guidance checked September 26, 2026 ties permission for a remote visit to the state where the patient is.
Links to every state and territorial board come from their national group, the Federation of State Medical Boards.
Open your board’s search. Use the doctor’s full name to find a match, then check the licence’s current status and any action by the board.
For the pharmacy: check the exact name
The FDA links to state licence searches from its pharmacy lookup page and advises avoiding online pharmacies missing from those records.
As of September 26, 2026, pharmacies outside the receiving state must have that state’s permission under the rules in most states.
A licence record shows permission to operate, but cannot tell you whether every medicine the pharmacy supplies is appropriate.
After the licence check, ask who will make the medicine and who will explain its label and storage instructions.
Keep a record of what you checked
Save the official result and the name you searched. If the service uses a different name, ask it to explain the difference.
